Q: Can I fix mechanical faults myself?

A: When fixing mechanical faults, the key is to identify which component is faulty and replace it.

Whilst the first half of the process is relatively straightforward, we wouldn’t recommend replacing the broken component yourself unless you have access to certified clean room facilities, or you are prepared to risk the permanent loss of your data.

If you open the hard drive in anything other than specialist anti-static, clean air facilities, you risk introducing dust into the hard drive which can get stuck between the platter and the read/write head. If this happens, you are likely to suffer a head crash that will make it impossible to recover your data.

Data Recovery Hospital possess certified ISO 3 clean room facilities and experienced engineers who can recover all data it is possible to recover from your failed device.

If you call us on the number at the top of the page, we’d be happy to provide a free diagnosis and outline the options for recovering your data.
