Q: How do I identify a mechanical failure with the read/write heads?

A: These are normally identifiable by a repetitive clicking noise coming from the drive when it is powered up. Depending on the model of drive these symptoms can vary slightly, some will click very loudly and obviously whilst others will follow a cycle of clicking and then spinning down, which can repeat or run for a set number of times before the drive stays spun down.
